Anthropology in Munich

The State Collection of Anthropology Munich is an institution of the Bavarian Natural History Collections and deals with the analysis of past human populations, mainly from the Bavarian region. Archaeological human skeletal remains, which are preserved in the collection and made available for research and educational purposes, serve as a source of information.

Collection

The SAM collection comprises approximately 67.000 archaeological skeletal finds, including cremated remains. These come predominantly from the Bavarian region and date from the Middle Paleolithic to modern times.

SAM Certificate

There is no standardized degree for osteoanthropologists that clearly and simply proves the necessary qualifications. The SAM wants to simplify this in the future with a certificate. This is valid for 4 years after attending the basic training and can be updated again and again by attending SAM seminars. This is to ensure that the certificate holders always remain up to date with the latest technical developments and are aware of the current requirements.
